Who we are

Flamenco del Sur was launched in 2008 as a Cape Town based Flamenco Company. It provides performance opportunities to dancers from all parts of the country.  The varied backgrounds of company dancers and musicians from Spain, Lebanon, Brazil and South Africa, pay tribute to the fact that Flamenco has extended beyond the Iberian peninsular and has attracted a global following. 

Despite our varied backgrounds one aspect that unites us all is our passion for Flamenco.  The resumes of past and present company dancers, reflect an impressive commitment to this passion with many of them having furthered their flamenco studies in Spain.  They have had considerable performance experience with other reputable Flamenco companies in South Africa and Spain and have collectively performed extensively in South Africa, Spain, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and the Far Eas

Our Vision

Flamenco del Sur aims to celebrate the tradition of flamenco within the context of living in South Africa. Just as multi – culturalism defined Flamenco, in the southern region of Spain, it is the intent of our company to bring flamenco to the richly, diverse cultures of southern Africa. 

 We aim to reflect the rich tradition of Flamenco and the roots of adversity and persecution out of which it was born, through the extensive Flamenco palos (rhythms) portraying the full range of emotions that are common to all humanity.
