• The Tradition of Flamenco

The Iberian peninsular is the home of the rich, vibrant culture of Flamenco. This exotic, expressive art form is the result of centuries of cross pollination of many cultures and peoples.

Flamenco emerged gradually through the occupation of Spain by the Phoenicians, Romans, the Jews from the Middle East, the Arab invasion from 711 – 1492CE and the gypsies originally from a caste in India.

  • The Tradition of Flamenco

With the Moorish occupation of Andalusia came the influences of the Egyptians, Syrians, Berbers, Greeks and North African cultures, while the gypsies, journeying from India through Asia and Europe, brought a rich tapestry of culture and music.

The gypsies, although nomadic by nature, set down roots in the region of Andalusia because of its delightful climate and rich land resources. Sevilla, Jerez, Cádiz, Granada, Cordoba as well as surrounding villages became their new home.

  • The Tradition of Flamenco

The gypsies began interacting with the rich cultural legacy of Andalusia resulting in a colourful, expressive art form known as Flamenco. This melting pot of cultures, are all trademarked by rhythmic, expressive music and dance and soulful vocal expression which have found their way into Flamenco.

It is this very aspect of multi-culturalism that allows it to continue to grow and evolve while staying true to its heritage.
